Author Guidelines

Language and Title Requirements:

  • Language: Original research articles must be written in English. Surveys may be accepted in Portuguese or Spanish.

  • Titles: Articles written in English should have the title only in English. Articles written in Portuguese or Spanish must include the English title followed by the title in the original language.

  • Formatting: Titles should be written in sentence case (only the first word and proper nouns/mathematical symbols should be capitalized).

Abstract: A concise and factual abstract is required. It should briefly state the purpose of the research, the principal results, and major conclusions. The abstract must be able to stand alone; therefore, references and non-standard abbreviations should be avoided.

Keywords and MSC: Immediately after the abstract, provide a maximum of 6 keywords. Avoid general and plural terms. Authors must also provide at least one classification code according to the Mathematics Subject Classification (MSC 2020).

Math Formulae: Please submit math equations as editable LaTeX text and not as images. Variables should generally be presented in italics. Number consecutively any equations that have to be displayed separately from the text (if referred to explicitly).

Figures: Ensure that each illustration has a caption. Illustrations (diagrams, graphs, and charts) must be perfectly legible and provided in high resolution (minimum 300 dpi).

Role of the Funding Source: Authors are requested to identify financial support for the research. Describe the role of the sponsor(s) in study design, data analysis, or the decision to submit the article. If there was no involvement, please state: "This research did not receive any specific grant from funding agencies in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors."

Citations and References:

  • Consistency: Ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa).

  • Citations in Abstract: References cited in the abstract must be given in full.

  • Unpublished Data: Unpublished results and personal communications are not recommended for the reference list but may be mentioned in the text.

  • In Press: Citing a reference as "in press" implies that the item has been officially accepted for publication.

  • Style: The journal follows the AMS Style. The inclusion of DOI (Digital Object Identifier) links in the reference list is highly encouraged for all cited articles.

Plagiarism Policy: All submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using specialized software. LAJM maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism and redundant publication.

Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. If no conflicts exist, please state: "The authors declare no conflict of interest."

Initial Submission: Manuscripts must be submitted to the Latin American Journal of Mathematics electronically on the site here. They must be submitted in PDF format with the omission of the identification of the author(s) to ensure an anonymous review.

Peer Review Process: LAJM employs a double-blind peer review process.

  1. Initial Screening: The Editorial Board performs an initial desk review for scope and basic quality.

  2. External Review: Manuscripts are evaluated by at least two independent external reviewers who are experts in the specific field of the paper.

  3. Decision: If opinions diverge, the manuscript will be sent to a third reviewer. The Editorial Board makes the final decision based on these reports.

After Acceptance: Once a paper is accepted, authors must provide the final LaTeX source files and all high-resolution figures.

Proofs: One set of page proofs (PDF) will be sent to the corresponding author. Authors are requested to return their corrections within 48 hours to ensure timely publication. Proofreading is solely the responsibility of the authors.

Open Access and APC: The Latin American Journal of Mathematics is a Diamond Open Access journal. There are no Article Processing Charges (APCs) or submission fees. All content is freely available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY 4.0) license.
